Justice and judgment [are] the habitation of your throne: mercy and truth shall go before your face. {habitation: or, establishment} **** Psalms 89:14

To do justice and judgment [is] more acceptable to the LORD than sacrifice. **** Proverbs 21:3

--- Or the LACK Thereof !! **** by Albert E. Jenke, Ph.D.

For one which considers itself to be a "Christian" nation, dedicated to "Justice and Equality" -- one in which "ALL men are created Equal, and endowed by their CREATOR with certain Natural Rights, among them Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness" -- we have a wrenched history of bigotry, racial hatred, and persecution !! We even began our national history by denying this concept of so-called "equality" to 50% of the population - woman- who were not allowed to vote or own property in their own name.

First there were the "red, heathen savages (to be hunted down and exterminated like rabid animals)". Then came the "ignorant black niggers (little children who needed their white masters to guide them)". Moving along, we encounter the Jews - "Kikes (the world money-masters, often complete with devil horns under their hats, who drank the blood of Christian children as part of their religious practice)". Later we come to the Germans, the Japanese, the Puerto Ricans, northern Yankees, southern Rebels - as a matter of fact, ANYONE who wasn't a PURE, native born, white, Protestant Christian, patriotic American (like God, me and you [maybe ??]) !!

From our Gilded Tower of "National Self-righteousness", we today have the audacity to criticize, condemn, and even wage war against those nations whom WE consider to be "trespassers of human dignity and rights", conveniently forgetting our OWN Civil War, fought so that one portion of our nation could defend and support their "RIGHT" to enslave their fellow man in order to keep them as POSSESSIONS to function as "WORK ANIMALS !! This "RIGHT" cost our nation 620,000 lives, five years of bloody war and a financial expenditure of $6.7 billion (4 times the total government expenditures from 1789-1860). What is MOST PATHETIC is that there are those today who are STILL fighting this war in their hearts and , if they had THEIR way, would AGAIN take it up in practice !!!

Out of this war arose another of our "Landmarks of Freedom and Liberty", the infamous KKK !!

The Ku Klux Klan (KKK) is the name of several past and present secret domestic terrorist organizations in the United States, generally in the southern states, that are best known for advocating white supremacy and acting as vigilantes while hidden behind conic masks and white robes. The first Klan was founded in 1865 by veterans of the Confederate Army. Its purpose was to restore white supremacy in the aftermath of the American Civil War. (From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)

So deceived is this group of people that this is the proclimation at their WEB site. "Welcome to the Ku Klux Klan! Bringing a Message of Hope and Deliverance to White Christian America! A Message of Love NOT Hate!" (from www.kkk.com)

Later we moved our self-righteous "national cleansing" from racial to moral ground, with our indignation poured out upon adulterers (the Scarlet Letter), again - the Jews, homosexuals - "Fags, queers, faggots", and Roman Catholics. Knowing no bounds to our "witch hunting" insanity, we even decided to cleanse the land of "real" witches during the renowned Salem Witch Hunt and then those dreaded, soul-destroying "Darwinists" during the famed "Monkey Trial" !!

We claim to be Christian, discounting the truth that The Master, Jesus, the preeminent JEW, commanded us to do THIS which sums up ALL of God's requirements for man, "You shall love God with ALL of your being, and you shall love your associate as you love yourself." Later, some hypocrites who sought to weasel out of His command by nit-picking over exactly WHO was their "associate", were met by Him with this answer, "Your associate is ANYONE that you chance to encounter during your day's activities." He then goes even one step further with the command, "You hear that it was said, 'Love your associate and hate your enemy.' Yet I am saying to you -- Love your enemies and do GOOD to them."

We even extended our hypocrisy into the political arena during the "Communist witch hunt" of the late 1940's and 1950's (McCarthyism).

I believe that Abe Lincoln put it VERY well in 1855 when he said, "Our progress in degeneracy appears to me to be pretty rapid. As a nation, we began by declaring that 'all men are created equal.' We now practically read it, 'all men are created equal except Negroes.' (When the ... get control, it will read. 'all men are created equal except Negroes, foreigners, Christians, Jews, and homosexuals'. NOTE: added by editor) When it comes to this, I should prefer emigrating to some country where they make no pretense of loving liberty --- to Russia, for instance --- where despotism can be taken pure, and without the base alloy of hypocrisy."

Do you find the previous paragraphs offensive ?? Perhaps you don't like the words that I used !! I assure you that God finds these attitudes FAR more than merely "offensive". Of course, as Germany chooses to "forget ITS Hitler and the Nazis", we like to conveniently forget and ignore our less than sterling past !! However, it is NOT the past that I really want to dwell upon in this treatise, but rather, it is the PRESENT and the FUTURE. It is said that, "Those who choose to ignore or forget the past will continue its sins into the present and the future".

God designed His universe (both physical AND spiritual) to function according to the principle of "sowing and reaping".

6:7 Do not be deceived. God will not be made a fool (mocked). For a person will reap what he sows. 6:8 The person who sows to his own flesh will reap corruption from the flesh, but the one who sows to the Spirit will reap eternal life from the Spirit. 6:9 So we must not grow weary in doing good, for in due time we will reap, if we do not give up. **** Galatians

Despite the fact that this nation was founded, according to the constitution, upon the concept of a "Superior, Creative Being who is concerned about and active in the affairs of men", we have today a nationwide, well organized, concerted effort to totally obliterate and render impotent any vestiges of LIVING Christianity from our society, with the ultimate desire to remove ALL Christians possessing a "LIVING FAITH" in their God and Creator !! In its place they would leave the "storefront illusion" (to console the foolish and to fool the consolable) of one more DEAD, manmade religious idol !!

Truly the Apostle Paul's words in Romans have again found their fulfillment in today's society. So determined are we to cast off ANY claim of a PERSONAL, creative, supreme intelligence that we would rather twist our minds to embrace ANY form of absurd foolishness rather than embrace the TRUTH. To mention two: 1. The Cosmos is the result of a "Big Bang" and the resultant dispersion of some "Eternal Matter" of unknown origin 2. The human race (and perhaps other races) is the result of "planetary seeding" by superior alien beings many aeons ago (where did these so-called "aliens" originate ??)!!!!

1:21 For although they knew God, they did not glorify him as God or give him thanks, but they became futile in their thoughts and their senseless hearts were darkened. 1:22 Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools. 1:25 They exchanged the truth of God for a lie and worshipped and served the creation rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen. 1:28 And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what should not be done. **** Romans

As a nation, we have sown some pretty bitter and disastrous seed, and have thusly reaped a treacherous crop. The problem is, the harvest is not yet by ANY means complete. Maybe we believe that we, as a nation AND as a people, are much more enlightened today than were our "primitive and superstitious" ancestors of yesterday. Perhaps we are, but as a nation, we may be even MORE possessed by the spirit of bigotry, persecution and racial hatred . What is most deadly is that we have hidden it under the honey coating of "political correctness".

3:14 This is the solemn pronouncement of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the originator of God’s creation: 3:15 "I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either cold or hot! 3:16 So because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I am going to vomit you out of my mouth! 3:17 Because you say, 'I am rich and have acquired great wealth, and need nothing', but do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind, and naked, 3:18 take my advice and buy gold from me refined by fire so you can become rich! Buy from me white clothing so you can be clothed and your shameful nakedness will not be exposed, and buy eye salve to put on your eyes so you can see!" **** Revelation

We not longer "hate Niggers" - no, we now have "racial and ideological differences with our Afro-American brothers" !! We don't actively persecute the "Kikes" anymore -- as a nation, we are afraid to do so. They have grown too politically and financially powerful. The Civil War STILL rages in the hearts and minds of MANY in both the North and South. We no longer hunt witches merely because we no longer believe that such things exist. As a nation, we have solved the "Darwin Issue" by proclaiming that, "God is irrelevant -- He has NO place in the public arena (many would say that He has no place AT ALL)" !! We no longer openly persecute "Fags" -- we are now a nation suffering from "homophobia" (so they tell us if we point out that God STILL counts homosexuality as a SIN). Woman MAY have won equality, but at WHAT cost ?? Where are the qualities that once rendered the "fairer sex" as being "fair" -- beauty, compassion, femininity, gentleness, graciousness, kindness, softness, tenderness, understanding and warmth ??????? As Jesus stated, it is NOT the words that come out of a man's mouth that are the true poison, but RATHER it is the thoughts and intents in his heart that motivate the words. Styles of expression may change form, may come and go, but the underlying attitudes remain the same !!

15:18 But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and these things defile a person. 15:19 For out of the heart come evil ideas, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander. 15:20 These are the things that defile a person **** Matthew

Bottom line and MOST disastrous, we have merely changed the targets and the mode of persecution to convey our national prejudice, fear, hatred and intolerance. We have wrapped our poison in pretty packages and sought to cover the stink of death and decay with the perfume of humanitarian mercy. We would seek to administer this "death potion" by disguising it as "medication for health and well-being", much as the wicked witch in "Snow White" hid her deadly poison in the beautiful red apple (and Eve, seeing that the fruit was pleasing to the eye, did eat, and on that day she did die). C.S. Lewis detected this encroaching plague back in England during the 1950's, when HE tried to warn HIS countrymen in the following essay. Today, this cancer has permeated our American Legal and Judicial system, and we run in blindness and ignorance, like the proverbial "heard of Lemmings", over the cliff's edge !! As the man said:

There is a fine sentence in Bunyan: "It came burning hot into my mind, whatever he said, and however he flattered, when he got me home to his house, he would sell me for a slave."

What truly mystifies me when I consider it is how such a group of VERY intelligent men as were those who founded our nation, fearful of creating a government in which too much power might be obtained by any ONE element, could none the less lay the foundation for the "Governmental Horror" that we have today. That is, where a group of UNELECTED officials (judges), who it is almost impossible to get rid of, could be allowed to set themselves up as a "Judicial Dictatorship", dispensing local and national governmental policy according to the whims and dictates of their own personal prejudices and interpretations, TOTALLY disregarding the desires and expressions of the people. Does NOT our founding document state that it is WE, the people, for whom this government is founded and implemented, and not for a small handful of elitist, demagogue dictators ??? I think that we should ALL do well to read the book or view the video, "Animal Farm". Also, "The Greening of America"

The main point of this treatise will be realized by reading a personal account of the bigotry and injustice encountered within the Legal and Judicial System as related to me by an individual of my acquaintance. The Humanitarian Theory of Punishment

Of all tyrannies a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies.

The Humanitarian Theory of Punishment, Res Judicatae (June 1953) ** by C.S. Lewis

I am a democrat because I believe that no man or group of men is good enough to be trusted with uncontrolled power over others. And the higher the pretensions of such power, the more dangerous I think it both to the rulers and to the subjects. Hence Theocracy is the worst of all governments. If we must have a tyrant a robber baron is far better than an inquisitor. The baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity at some point be sated; and since he dimly knows he is going wrong he may possibly repent. But the inquisitor who mistakes his own cruelty and lust of power and fear for the voice of Heaven will torment us infinitely because he torments us with the approval of his own conscience and his better impulses appear to him as temptations. And since Theocracy is the worst, the nearer any government approaches to Theocracy the worse it will be. A metaphysic, held by the rulers with the force of a religion, is a bad sign. It forbids them, like the inquisitor, to admit any grain of truth or good in their opponents, it abrogates the ordinary rules of morality, and it gives a seemingly high, super-personal sanction to all the very ordinary human passions by which, like other men, the rulers will frequently be actuated.

Of Other Worlds, p. 81 ** by C.S. Lewis

Never has the tyranny and gross injustice of the "humanitarian" theory of punishment-as-reform been revealed in more scintillating fashion than by C.S. Lewis. Noting that the "reformers" call their proposed actions "healing" or "therapy" rather than "punishment," Lewis adds:

Do not let us be deceived by a name. To be taken without consent from my home and friends; to lose my liberty; to undergo all those assaults on my personality which modern psychotherapy knows how to deliver . . . to know that this process will never end until either my captors have succeeded or I grown wise enough to cheat them with apparent success — who cares whether this is called Punishment or not? That it includes most of the elements for which any punishment is feared — shame, exile, bondage, and years eaten by the locust-is obvious. Only enormous ill-desert could justify it; but ill-desert is the very conception which the Humanitarian theory has thrown overboard.

Lewis goes on to demonstrate the particularly harsh tyranny that is likely to be levied by "humanitarians" out to inflict their "reforms" and "cures" on the populace:

Of all tyrannies a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience. They may be more likely to go to Heaven yet at the same time likelier to make a Hell of earth. This very kindness stings with intolerable insult. To be "cured" against one’s will and cured of states which we may not regard as disease is to be put on a level of those who have not yet reached the age of reason or those who never will; to be classed with infants, imbeciles, and domestic animals. But to be punished, however severely, because we have deserved it, because we "ought to have known better," is to be treated as a human person made in God’s image.

Furthermore, Lewis points out, the rulers can use the concept of "disease" as a means for terming any actions that they dislike as "crimes" and then to inflict a totalitarian rule in the name of Therapy.

For if crime and disease are to be regarded as the same thing, it follows that any state of mind which our masters choose to call "disease" can be treated as crime; and compulsorily cured. It will be vain to plead that states of mind which displease government need not always involve moral turpitude and do not therefore always deserve forfeiture of liberty. For our masters will not be using concepts of Desert and Punishment but those of disease and cure. . . . It will not be persecution. Even if the treatment is painful, even if it is lifelong, even if it is fatal, that will be only a regrettable accident; the intention was purely therapeutic. Even in ordinary medicine there were painful operations and fatal operations; so in this. But because they are "treatment," not punishment, they can be criticized only by fellow-experts and on technical grounds, never by men as men and on grounds of justice. [18]

Thus, we see that the fashionable reform approach to punishment can be at least as grotesque and far more uncertain and arbitrary than the deterrence principle. Retribution remains as our only just and viable theory of punishment and equal treatment for equal crime is fundamental to such retributive punishment. The barbaric turns out to be the just while the "modern" and the "humanitarian" turn out to be grotesque parodies of justice.

The Humanitarian Theory of Punishment

by C. S. Lewis (1898-1963)
From God in the Dock. Copyright 1970 by C. S. Lewis Pte Ltd.

II. C.S. Lewis: The Injustice of Humanitarianism

i. Justice: The Justification for Punishment

1. Equitable punishment can only be achieved if the concepts of deserving and justice are realized.

2. There can not be mercy and forgiveness without the idea of deserving. Deserving, mercy and forgiveness can not be given without the idea of wrong. With the idea of wrong, there must be an idea of punishment.

3. Therefore punishment is justified and also necessary, because it is the recognition of a wrong doing and deserving, which ultimately enables the individual to receive mercy and forgiveness.

ii. Humanitarianism: Devoid of Justice and Rights

1. If crime is considered an illness, and not a wrong doing, there is no justice, but only a so called cure.

2. If the wrong doing is not punished, but treated as if one would treat an illness, there is no justice. To cure someone of an illness that he "could not help" leaves us without justice. First of all the individual is no longer held responsible for his actions, as a result of this belief the individual is not punished.

3. The individual has no rights with the humanitarian view because the "ill" person is no longer a man, but merely a patient to be treated. He is not considered to be a man of free will, he becomes no different from an animal. As a result his treatment is not voluntary, therefore he has no rights. But, his rights are not lost merely in the regards of his choice to accept treatment, but also in the regards of the human quality of exercising free will. Not only this; he has also lost his right to freely repent. Just as an animal is not deemed worthy of forgiveness, the man who committed the crime can no longer be forgiven.

iii. The Abuse and Tyranny of Humanitarianism

1. Once an individual commits a crime; his rights are lost. He is no longer a human being, but a sick person who needs a cure.

2. Morality, the concepts of right, wrong and punishment are replaced by narrow minded animalistic views of human beings. The treatment for a person who commits a crime is no longer any different from the treatment given to an individual who truly has a mental sickness or a wild animal. This is a grave injustice to the dignity of the human person.

" . . The Humanitarian theory removes from Punishment the concept of Desert. But the concept of Desert is the only connecting link between punishment and justice. It is only as deserved or undeserved that a sentence can be just or unjust. I do not here contend that the question 'Is it deserved?' is the only one we can reasonably ask about a punishment. We may very properly ask whether it is likely to deter others and to reform the criminal. But neither of these two last questions is a question about justice. There is no sense in talking about a 'just deterrent' or a 'just cure.' We demand of a deterrent not whether it is just but whether it will deter. We demand of a cure not whether it is just but whether it succeeds. Thus when we cease to consider what the criminal deserves and consider only what will cure him or deter others, we have tacitly removed him from the sphere of justice altogether; instead of a person, a subject of rights, we now have a mere object, a patient, a 'case.' . . .

To be 'cured' against one's will and cured of states which we may not regard as disease is to be put on a level with those who have not yet reached the age of reason or those who never will; to be classed with infants, imbeciles, and domestic animals. But to be punished, however severely, because we have deserved it, because we 'ought to have known better,' is to be treated as a human person made in God's image. . . . . . .

This is why I think it essential to oppose the Humanitarian theory of Punishment, root and branch, wherever we encounter it. It carries on its front a semblance of Mercy which is wholly false. That is how it can deceive men of good will. The error began, perhaps, with Shelley's statement that the distinction between Mercy and Justice was invented in the courts of tyrants. It sounds noble, and was indeed the error of a noble mind. But the distinction is essential. The older view was that Mercy "tempered" Justice, or (on the highest level of all) that Mercy and Justice had met and kissed. The essential act of Mercy was to pardon; and pardon in its very essence involves the recognition of guilt and ill-desert in the recipient. If crime is only a disease which needs cure, not sin which deserves punishment, it cannot be pardoned. How can you pardon a man for having a gumboil or a club foot? But the Humanitarian theory wants simply to abolish Justice and substitute Mercy for it. This means that you start being "kind" to people before you have considered their rights, and then force upon them supposed kindnesses which they in fact had a right to refuse, and finally kindnesses which no one but you will recognize as kindnesses and which the recipient will feel as abominable cruelties. You have overshot the mark. Mercy, detached from Justice, grows unmerciful. That is the important paradox. As there are plants which will flourish only in mountain soil, so it appears that Mercy will flower only when it grows in the crannies of the rock of Justice; transplanted to the marshlands of mere Humanitarianism, it becomes a man-eating weed, all the more dangerous because it is still called by the same name as the mountain variety. But we ought long ago to have learned our lesson. We should be too old now to be deceived by those humane pretensions which have served to usher in every cruelty of the revolutionary period in which we live. These are the 'precious balms' which will 'break our heads.' . . "

There is a fine sentence in Bunyan: "It came burning hot into my mind, whatever he said, and however he flattered, when he got me home to his house, he would sell me for a slave."

5:20 Those who call evil good and good evil are as good as dead, who turn darkness into light and light into darkness, who turn bitter into sweet and sweet into bitter. 5:21 Those who think they are wise are as good as dead, those who think they possess understanding. 5:22 Those who are champions at drinking wine are as good as dead, who display great courage when mixing strong drinks. 5:23 They pronounce the guilty innocent for a payoff, they ignore the just cause of the innocent. 5:24 Therefore, as flaming fire devours straw, and dry grass disintegrates in the flames, so their root will rot, and their flower will blow away like dust. For they have rejected the law of the Lord who commands armies, they have spurned the commands of the Holy One of Israel.

58:1 Shout loudly! Don't be quiet! Yell as loud as a trumpet! Confront my people with their rebellious deeds; confront Jacob's family with their sin 58:2 They seek me day after day; they want to know my requirements, like a nation that does what is right and does not reject the law of their God. They ask me for just decrees; they want to be near God. 58:3 They lament, ‘Why don’t you notice when we fast? Why don’t you pay attention when we humble ourselves?’ Look, at the same time you fast, you satisfy your selfish desires, you oppress your workers. 58:4 Look, your fasting is accompanied by arguments, brawls, and fist fights. Do not fast as you do today, trying to make your voice heard in heaven. 58:5 Is this really the kind of fasting I want? Do I want a day when people merely humble themselves, bowing their heads like a reed and stretching out on sackcloth and ashes? Is this really what you call a fast, a day that is pleasing to the Lord? 58:6 No, this is the kind of fast I want. I want you to remove the sinful chains, to tear away the ropes of the burdensome yoke, to set free the oppressed, and to break every burdensome yoke. 58:7 I want you to share your food with the hungry and to provide shelter for homeless, oppressed people. When you see someone naked, clothe him! Don’t turn your back on your own flesh and blood! 58:8 Then your light will shine like the sunrise; your restoration will quickly arrive; your godly behavior will go before you, and the Lord’s splendor will be your rear guard. 58:9 Then you will call out, and the Lord will respond; you will cry out, and he will reply, ‘Here I am.’ You must remove the burdensome yoke from among you and stop pointing fingers and speaking sinfully. Then your light will dispel the darkness, and your darkness will be transformed into noonday. 58:11 The Lord will continually lead you; he will feed you even in parched regions. He will give you renewed strength, and you will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring that continually produces water. 58:12 Your perpetual ruins will be rebuilt; you will reestablish the ancient foundations. You will be called, ‘The one who repairs broken walls, the one who makes the streets inhabitable again.’ 58:14 Then you will find joy in your relationship to the Lord, and I will give you great prosperity, and cause crops to grow on the land I gave to your ancestor Jacob. Know for certain that the Lord has spoken.

59:1 Look, the Lord’s hand is not too weak to deliver you; his ear is not too deaf to hear you. 59:2 But your sinful acts have alienated you from your God; your sins have caused him to reject you and not listen to your prayers. 59:3 For your hands are stained with blood and your fingers with sin; your lips speak lies, your tongue utters malicious words. 59:4 No one is concerned about justice; no one sets forth his case truthfully. They depend on false words and tell lies; they conceive of oppression and give birth to sin. 59:6 ...... Their deeds are sinful; they commit violent crimes. 59:7 They are eager to do evil, quick to shed innocent blood. Their thoughts are sinful; they crush and destroy. 59:8 They are unfamiliar with peace; their deeds are unjust. They use deceitful methods, and whoever deals with them is unfamiliar with peace. 59:9 For this reason deliverance is far from us and salvation does not reach us. We wait for light, but see only darkness; we wait for a bright light, but live in deep darkness. 59:10 We grope along the wall like the blind, we grope like those who cannot see; we stumble at noontime as if it were evening. Though others are strong, we are like dead men. 59:11 We all growl like bears, we coo mournfully like doves; we wait for deliverance, but there is none, for salvation, but it is far from us. 59:12 For you are aware of our many rebellious deeds, and our sins testify against us. 59:13 We have rebelled and tried to deceive the Lord; we turned back from following our God. We stir up oppression and rebellion; we tell lies we concocted in our minds. 59:14 Justice is driven back; godliness stands far off. Indeed, honesty stumbles in the city square and morality is not even able to enter. 59: Honesty has disappeared; the one who tries to avoid evil is robbed. The Lord watches and is displeased, for there is no justice. ***** Isaiah

22:1 The word of the Lord came to me: 22:2 "As for you, son of man, are you willing to pronounce judgment on the bloody city? Then confront her with all her abominable deeds! 22:3 Then say, ‘This is what the sovereign Lord says: O city, who spills blood within herself (which brings on her doom), and who makes herself idols (which results in impurity), 22:4 you are guilty because of the blood you shed and defiled by the idols you made. You have hastened the day of your doom; the end of your years has come. Therefore I will make you an object of scorn to the nations, an object to be mocked by all lands. 22:5 Those both near and far from you will mock you, you with your bad reputation, full of turmoil. 22:6 See how each of the princes of Israel living within you has used his authority to shed blood. 22:7 They have treated father and mother within you with contempt; they have oppressed the foreigner among you; they have wronged the orphan and the widow within you. 22:8 You have despised my holy things and desecrated my Sabbaths! 22:9 Slanderous men shed blood within you. Those who live within you eat pagan sacrifices on the mountains; they commit obscene acts among you. 22:10 They have sex with their father’s wife within you; they violate women during their menstrual period within you. 22:11 One commits an abominable act with his neighbor’s wife; another obscenely defiles his daughter-in-law; another violates his sister, his father’s daughter, within you. 22:12 They take bribes within you to shed blood. You engage in usury and charge interest; you extort money from your neighbors. You have forgotten me, declares the sovereign Lord. 22:13 See, I strike my hands together at the dishonest profit you have made, and at the bloodshed they have done among you. 22:14 Can your heart endure, or can your hands be strong when I deal with you? I, the Lord, have spoken, and I will do it! 22:15 I will scatter you among the nations and disperse you among various countries; I will remove your impurity from you. 22:16 You will be profaned within yourself in the sight of the nations; then you will know that I am the Lord". 22:17 The word of the Lord came to me: 22:18 "Son of man, the house of Israel has become slag to me. All of them are like bronze, tin, iron, and lead in the furnace; they are the worthless slag of silver. 22:19 Therefore this is what the sovereign Lord says: because all of you have become slag, look out! I am about to gather you in the middle of Jerusalem. 22:20 As silver, bronze, iron, lead, and tin are gathered in a furnace so that the fire can melt them, so I will gather you in my anger and in my rage. I will deposit you there and melt you. 22:21 I will gather you and blow on you with the fire of my fury, and you will be melted in it. 22:22 As silver is melted in a furnace, so you will be melted in it, and you will know that I, the Lord, have poured out my anger on you" 22:23 The word of the Lord came to me: 22:24 "Son of man, say to her: ‘You are a land that receives no rain or showers in the day of my anger.’ 22:25 Her princes within her are like a roaring lion tearing its prey; they have devoured lives. They take away riches and valuable things; they have made many women widows within it. 22:26 Her priests abuse my law and have desecrated my holy things. They do not distinguish between the holy and the profane, or recognize any distinction between the unclean and the clean. They ignore my Sabbaths and I am profaned in their midst. 22:27 Her officials are like wolves in her midst rending their prey, shedding blood and destroying lives, so they can get dishonest profit. 22:28 Her prophets coat their messages with whitewash. They see false visions and announce lying omens for them, saying, ‘This is what the sovereign Lord says,’ when the Lord has not spoken. 22:29 The people of the land have practiced extortion and committed robbery. They have wronged the poor and needy; they have oppressed the foreigner who lives among them and denied them justice. 22:30 I looked for a man from among them who would repair the wall and stand in the gap before me on behalf of the land, so that I would not destroy it, but I found no one. 22:31 So I have poured my anger on them, and destroyed them with the fire of my fury. I hereby repay them for what they have done, declares the sovereign Lord". ****** Ezekiel
